You can engage in your child’s learning at home and school in many ways. The school council provides advice on school matters and helps to strengthen the important relationship between schools, families and their communities. The council includes family members, school staff and community members.
About School Council
The purpose of School Council is to provide the community with a voice, where their thoughts and ideas can be shared with the school. The School Council advises the school and seeks to promote the school in the community, as well as creates opportunities for the school to improve, through input into the School Improvement Plan and fundraising.
All parents and community members are welcome to attend School Council meetings and participate in School Council activities and committees, though only members are able to vote on motions. Membership guidelines are outlined in the School Council Constitution, and new members are voted in at the first meeting of the fall. Meeting dates are set at the start of the school year and posted on the school's street sign.

All meetings will take place in person in the library, unless otherwise communicated, though a virtual link will be shared for those who prefer to join online.
Fundraising
Fundraising is an important part of what the School Council does. The goal is to raise money that can support and extend student learning and well-being. The Council has several fundraisers through the year, including hot lunches, movie nights, and sales of various kinds. As part of the communication, we share what we are raising money for; the list includes:
- Computer cost sharing
- Snack program
- Musical instruments
- Robotics
- Grade 8 Graduation
Families have the choice of which fundraisers they participate in.
